We're all neurodivergent here
Hi! You’ve found your way to this corner of the internet maybe via a recommendation from someone I work with with, or some flavour of Google search involving “Help for ADHD writers”, “How to write a book when you can’t focus”, or “writing with low spoons”.
To be clear, for you sitting comfortably might involve hooking your feet around your chair legs, having your legs crossed under you at the dinner table, or just lying on the floor.
Welcome. You might already be feeling apprehensive – most of my clients either never believed they could write a book, or believed they could finish it. However, yes, I’m very proud – of them – to say that they all have....so far.
Want to know about the magic?
How can you know whether we might be a good match to work together? For starters, here are some of my beliefs and values.
- Climate change is real
- Systemic racism exists and persists and is harmful to all of us
- I support trans rights
- Chronic illness, fibromyalgia, ADHD and COVID all exist
- Self-diagnosis of neurodivergence is valid
If there's anything there that's not for you, then I'm probably not for you, and that's ok.
Thank you, no thank you
As someone who’s menopausal, with late-diagnosed ADHD and fibromyalgia, I have to monitor my attention span and capacity. Being my own boss helps ensure a decent work/health balance and I will prioritise my health over my schedule when I have to. I’m in my crone era, and I’m fine with that.
I mainly read historical, fantasy, cosy crime, YA and I don’t read anything with gratuitous, on-the-page violence, especially sexual violence. If that’s what your book is about, we won’t be a good match if/when you need to discuss your work. I’ll cancel any booked sessions.
Also I couldn’t identify a Kardashian to save my life, so high-pop culture or celeb focussed work probably isn’t my bag either.
I don’t make promises to my clients about fame and fortune publication, getting an agent – because all of that is outside my control.
Having said all that…
What I can offer you is ways to get yourself to the page, methods to counter the fear and procrastination, and a huge amount of cheerleading.
If you’re a late- or self-diagnosed ADHDer who’s never been able to quite finish – or start – that novel or non-fiction proposal, get in touch.
If you’re a spoonie with limited energy resources, and need support and accountability, I’d love to hear from you.
If you’ve just never got the right vibes from a coach or mentor before, because you felt you couldn’t show up as your perfectly imperfect, wired, tired self, then we should definitely
talk.
And if you know the show that GIF above is from, then what are you waiting for?
