I'm so glad you asked!
Chances are, if you're neurodivergent you've come across body doubling in some shape before now.
- your mum used to hover in the background (not hoover, that would be terribly distracting, although also possibly white noise, so you do you) while you finished your homework
- a uni mate always dragged you to the library to finish that "due tomorrow" essay in an all-nighter
- you sit with your kids reading your own book so you can legally fill in the homework diary with 'He read five pages this evening!' and hope for the dopamine crumb of a green tick from the teacher
What is body doubling?
Body doubling is a tool to help us get tasks started and finished, without losing focus or wandering off being distracted. I suspect the reasons why it works are different for different people, maybe it's the comfort of having someone with you to get through an unpleasant task, or it could go as far back as remembering how much benefit you got from the structure of school, where there was always a teacher in the room keeping you on track.
So what's Book Doubling?

- Use as much of your session as you need to talk through your current project - anything from character arcs to nailing your ending
- Plan how to meet your editorial deadlines, in a gentle and achievable way that's kind to your wired, tired brain
- If your enthusiasm for your project has stalled since you started, let's get you excited about it again
- Meet me on Zoom as often as needed to reestablish your writing routine and get your work done and out into the world
